GSK plant in Aiken shuts down after methane reading
GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare plant in Aiken halted operations Tuesday morning following detected elevated methane in the Windham Road sewer system. About 200 employees evacuated and the site cleared for safety. no risk to the surrounding community. Authorities and a Center Fire Department crew remained to investigate and plan return once issue is resolved.

Todd Hutson the engineer says it can pull 30 to 40 cars drawing crowds at the depot near Park Avenue and Williamsburg Street with kids especially eager. A second engine No 4201 is being refurbished and expected within two months.

City closes skate park at Odell Weeks Center
The H Odell Weeks Activities Cen ter skate park, funded by Capital Projects Sales Tax, closed permanently three weeks ago due to low attendance. It averaged seven to ten skaters weekly and 1,500 yearly, with gates, chains, and a no trespass sign in place. Equipment will be sold on GovDeals as part of the surplus process.
