New Ellenton resident Zachary L. Thomas, 33, of Pineview Drive, was arrested on charges of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature stemming from alleged abuse dating to May. Warrant states the suspect choked a victim and struck her head against walls. Bond set at $5,000.
Ronald R. Laws, 39, of Beard Road, Beech Island, was arrested this weekend and charged with assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct in the third degree after allegedly fondling a sleeping victim. Police reported the allegation remains under investigation. A separate incident at South Aiken High School saw eight school buses vandalized with flat tires on each bus. officials say tires were flattened but not destroyed and could be pumped up. The case is under investigation.
New Ellenton Public Works warns all customers on Highway 19 from Talatha Church Road to Medwell Hill Road to boil tap water for one minute before drinking or cooking until 3 pm today. Do not use ice made from unboiled water. Call 652-2862 for details.

Security Federal Corporation reports second quarter net income of 1.1 million or 0.43 per basic share for three months ended Sept 30 2007, up from 1.0 million or 0.39 per share a year earlier. Six month net income reaches 2.2 million or 0.85 per share, up 8.5 percent. Total assets rise to 799.5 million as loans and deposits grow.
