Mason Leaves Hospital Moves Toward Home

Plant construction ahead of schedule

Construction has begun on the Bridgestone Firestone tire plant in South Carolina and progress is ahead of the original projection. Project manager Clyde Fish says the building will be about a quarter of a mile long and three football fields wide while using many South Carolina companies for the work.

AMDGESTONE has engaged Richardson Construction Hardaway Concrete and Law Engineering all based in Columbia. Baker Construction Co of Ohio and Cline Iron and Steel of Columbia are also involved. Bechtel Construction Management is the prime contractor with no general contractor on site. Local subcontractor opportunities are expected.

Aiken Rescue Squad lifeline in United Way aid

Aiken Rescue Squad chief Bob Besley credits United Way of Aiken County with keeping the volunteer unit afloat by funding a new truck with Jaws of Life gear and paying insurance and fuel costs. The squad, with 50 trained volunteers, backs up EMS in Aiken County and covers events such as high school football, the Jaycee Fair, Makin and Steeplechase, serving New Ellenton, Aiken and Windsor.
