Schofield Middle art project honors terrorism victims memories
Schofield Middle School students created boxes and foil sculptures in a courtyard to honor victims of the New York terrorist attacks. Guided by art teacher Linda Muse and visiting crafter Jackie Hill, the project blends folk art with reflections on September 11, drawing on African American art influences and Harlem Renaissance references as a healing, educational effort.

Primary Focus Helps Jefferson Students Build Character
Jefferson Elementary students received a character-building reinforcement from the national nonprofit Primary Focus, which provided six performers to talk sing and dance about traits for good character. The program is part of a three-year Chick-fil-A initiative with classroom lessons and parent take-home cards, plus rewards like Valsunws coupons for demonstrating good character. East Aiken Elementary teachers joined in aiding the program with fifth graders preparing two plays set for next month. The effort emphasizes character across the curriculum as teachers incorporate trait-focused stories and literature.
