Holliday, longtime Galivants Ferry Stump coordinator, dies at 84

John Monroe Holliday, a lifelong South Carolina Democrat who coordinated the Galivants Ferry Stump since the 1940s, has died at age 84 after a long illness. A Citadel graduate and Army veteran, he helped shape political discourse at the famed stump where figures like Strom Thurmond and Fritz Hollings announced campaigns. He is survived by wife Marjorie Russell Holliday, two children and three grandchildren.
