Americans Kidnapped in Beirut Amid Lebanon Conflict
Two American Embassy officers Charles Gallagher aged 44 from Roanoke Virginia and William Dykes Jr. aged 50 from San Jose California were abducted at a street barricade in Beirut during Lebanon’s Christian Muslim fighting. Meat Packer Fined for Arson Attempt in Belvedere Break-In
James Edward Rau of Belvedere pleaded guilty in General Sessions Court to attempted arson and being an accessory before and after a break in at Country Meat Store in Belvedere last July. He was fined 500 dollars and admonished by Judge Rodney A. Peeples not to appear again. The incident included painted yellow fight sides of beef and gasoline poured on the building but the fire burned out on the cement floor. The owner Ray testified the defendant paid 500 dollars to cause the attempt for protection of himself. Rau owns Raleigh Farms Meat Co. in North Augusta.

September price report shows inflation easing modestly
