Mortgage Burning Honors Local Habitat Families

Aiken County Habitat for Humanity held a Mortgage Burning Ceremony under a picnic shelter honoring the Halls, Schoultz, and the Corbetts for paying off their homes. Alesia Hall urged her husband not to extinguish the flames as their mortgage turned to ashes, marking the couple’s August 1995 completion and July 2023 payoff. Habitat, celebrating 25 years, has built 92 local homes and is working on a 93rd as seven mortgages have been paid off.
