SRP abandons plan for new office near Virginia Acres Park
After months of debate SRP Federal Credit Union halts a $2.5 million office complex project beside Virginia Acres Park. Ed Templeton says SRP will sell the site to Aiken County Land Trust for $200,000 as part of a 22 acre park and then donate it to the City of Aiken. CHASITI KIRKLAND reports nearly 1,000 seniors attended the Aiken County Jay- Fair enjoying corn dogs sausage dogs vinegar fries and other foods. Elsie Smith praised the long standing tradition and Anthony Miranda called it a boost to the area. Today features pay-one ride special and a 8 p.m. 38 Special concert with Sunday events including a children's fashion show and a church bulletin discount on admission.
Judge Simons Administers Oath to New Citizens
Judge Charles E Simons Jr presided at a noon naturalization ceremony in the Charles E Simons Jr Federal Courthouse second floor courtroom. Barry and Martin Katzleeve joined 62 others and their parents Robert and Jill Katz in taking the oath, pledging loyalty and defending the nation while embracing new civic responsibilities. Mayor Fred Cavanaugh joined in welcoming the new Americans and urged active participation in democracy.
