The American Eagle gold coins went on sale with strong demand. The Mint moved over 320000 ounces on opening day from 24 of 25 distributors and may raise its year total from 22 million ounces forecast.
Michigan organ agencies say organs from homosexuals would not be used for transplant due to AIDS concerns. Richard Fuller of the Michigan Eye Bank notes homosexual donations may be used only for research if risk to technicians exists. Officials in Ann Arbor and Lansing say they would reject such donor organs though no formal policy exists.

The Revolutionary Justice Organization claims it has kidnapped U.S. citizen Edward Austin Tracy in Beirut. The note accuses Tracy of spying for the CIA and Mossad and provides a photo but gives no date or location of the abduction.
At Greendale Elementary in New Ellenton parents and officials pressed Town Council for relief from congested traffic. A temporary, informal one way dropoff route was agreed, with maps to be mailed and volunteers guiding students until the South Carolina Highway Department can install sidewalks a traffic light and proper signs.
