On Shadavia Ross's fourth birthday the Ross family, with mother Ava and brothers Jordan and Kaleb, received keys to a new home at 1118 Austin St from North Augusta Habitat for Humanity. Williston-Elko High School hosts the Run Like the Devil 5K and health fair on Oct 30. Organized by the Williston Area Runners and Walkers Club, the event benefits the South Carolina Autism Society and Williston-Elko Middle School Improvement Council, with screenings by Bamwell County Hospital and health education stalls. SRNL Engineer George Wicks Wins National Ceramic Award
Savannah River National Laboratory engineer Dr. George Wicks received the Arthur Frederick Greaves-Walker Award from the American Ceramic Society at the 112th ACerS Annual Meeting in Houston. His work includes advancing high level waste vitrification, Defense Waste Processing Facility support, and development of Porous Wall Hollow Glass Microspheres with 14 patents to date. Earlier this year he earned the South Carolina Governor's Award for Excellence in Scientific Research.

The Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons hosts a Halloween Monster Mash on Saturday October 30 at 7 p.m. at 187 Chime Bell Church Road with Soundwaves DJ Mickey Hopkins contests prizes a raffle and a chance to win a Willcox Inn night. Tickets are 25 with a cash bar and all proceeds support shelter counseling and outreach for domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
