Sgt. Michael Hunt leads the Aiken County Bloodhound Tracking Team in training eight June-born puppies from a Tara bloodhound. At 16 weeks, the pups undergo a mock escape test in woods with a 15 minute cold trail, and those passing will advance to pavement and field work.

Aiken City Council will meet next week to decide how to proceed after city manager Steve Thompson resigned to become Greenville city manager. Thompson, eight years as city manager and ten as assistant, cited a great opportunity as Greenville faces redevelopment. He has been considered for jobs in Medford, Spartanburg and Greeley but will move with his wife Christine and daughters Darryl and Ryan to begin in December.
Republican Windham, a farmer turned candidate, faces Democrat incumbent Kathy Rawls in the District 1 Aiken County Council race. Rawls, a longtime former teacher, opposes tax increases and regulatory growth. Both share farm roots and a strong work ethic. the campaign follows months of quiet campaigning.
Voters in Aiken County go to the polls tomorrow to decide races in Districts 5 and 6. Candidates and polling locations are listed citywide as residents prepare to cast ballots in the local council elections.
