Bicycle Licensing and Registration Day in Aiken
The Department of Public Safety sponsors a Saturday bicycle licensing event at St Marys School playground on York Street from 9 a.m. to noon. Residents will receive a bicycle driver license and tag with the tag number engraved on the bike. There is no cost or penalty for non registration. Inspector Willie Parker notes registered bikes are easier to recover if stolen.

Midland Valley Pageant Set With 60 Participants
The Miss Midland Valley Pageant on November 13 will feature over 60 high school students in grades nine through twelve. Debbie Carter says contestants compete on poise and appearance with seniors additionally judged on talent. One senior will be Miss Midland Valley and another Miss Senior, with two runners-up and titles for Miss Junior Miss Sophomore and Miss Freshman plus runners-up. The event starts at 7 30 p m and costs 2 dollars.

Fire destroys Vaucluse home near highway
A two story house built around a mobile home burned yesterday morning off the Vaucluse Highway. Owner Leroy Greg was away at the time. The fire threatened nearby mobile homes in Vaucluse Heights Trailer Park, and the cause remains undetermined.
