Supreme Court wins for poker machines. referendum blocked
Jaytime Distributors & Amusement Co. Inc. of Greenville challenges the SC Supreme Court ruling that voided the November 2 referendum on the $2.8 billion-a-year video gambling industry. The court preserved the ban taking effect July 1 while deeming the voting provisions an improper delegation of legislative authority. Jaytime may seek Supreme Court review if the state supreme court declines to hear the appeal. The decision leaves the industry facing a possible shutdown, with new regulations contingent on voter approval or rejection.
