Aiken man surrenders after armed standoff with police
Aiken Public Safety officers spent about two hours in a tense confrontation with Michael D. Turner 22 as he fired at the ground with a 12 gauge shotgun and carried a .22 rifle. His sister, believed at risk, was found unharmed and Turner was taken to hospital and then to a Columbia mental facility.

An Aiken woman says she was struck in the face while shopping at Kroger on University Parkway around 9 p.m. Saturday. Cynthia Green, 35, of Aiken was charged with simple assault after officers found the injured woman and questioned Green in the Kroger parking lot. she was released on a summons.
