Pot by slave potter Drake shown at Aiken event

At the Aiken Historic Foundation meeting in the Aiken County Historical Museum ballroom, a recently discovered David Drake stoneware pot was unveiled by an anonymous holder. The piece, with LM carved on it, was once used for pickling and is valued at 75,000 to 100,000 dollars.

Former St. Mary priest receives South Carolina’s top civilian honor

The Rev. Jeffrey Kirby, former parochial vicar at St. Mary Help of Christians, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto at the South Carolina Statehouse in Columbia. Gov. Nikki Haley named Sen. Tom Young to preside. attendees included Justice Jean Toal and Rep. Mick Mulvaney. Kirby has led multiple parishes, written on theology, and teaches at Belmont Abbey College.
