Government reopens after bipartisan vote ends shutdown

County to implement home detention program at Aiken Center
At a Tuesday meeting Aiken County Council unanimously approved a contract with Offender Management Services LLC to run a home detention and electronic monitoring system starting 2014. The program could save the county money and reduce jail population as Capt. Nick Gallam notes. An offender would pay about 70 dollars weekly for equipment and fees, with eligibility including pretrial release and sentences under 90 days.
