Westside High School students challenged guidance counselor Norm Worley to shave his beard if they raised 1900 dollars for United Way. They surpassed the goal with 2061 dollars and 54 cents, prompting a shaving in the theater and a celebratory kiss from his girlfriend of three years.
Dr Joanne Fraser of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control defended the 3Rs program as a moral curriculum during a Spartanburg meeting with parents. The optional seventh grade course is taught in Spartanburg District 2 at Boiling Springs Junior High and Mayo Elementary, with parental permission required.
Blue skies and sunny conditions expected across Aiken County this weekend. Daytime highs near the upper 70s with cooler nights in the 40s.

Eugene Hasenfus 45 of Marinette Wisconsin captured Oct 6 when C 123 transport was shot down over southern Nicaragua. He will be tried by a People’s Anti Somo salida Tribunal on charges under emergency laws with possible 30 year sentence. State Department calls trial a propaganda exercise and says a fair hearing is unlikely.
