Elouise Wade Meria Taylor 51 of 53 Saint Johns Church Road faced a Friday bond hearing at the Aiken County detention center after SLED charged her with homicide by child abuse in the Aug 6 death of 16 month old Xzavian Knight from New Ellenton. USC Aiken Professor Wins Governor's Professor of the Year

USC Aiken chemistry professor Chad Leverette is named Governor's Professor of the Year for South Carolina after a surprise office visit by Chancellor Tom Hallman and higher education leaders. The award includes $5,000 and NSF funded Raman microscope for spectroscopy work.

Aiken County wins summary judgment in a 2009 suit by former assessor Michael E. Reed who claimed hostile work environment and First Amendment retaliation. Reed alleged County Administrator Clay Killian and County Council Chairman Ronnie Young conspired to force his resignation and hinder his duties. Judge Margaret Seymour granted the motion, closing the case without trial.
