Sheriff proposes expanding reserve deputy program in Aiken County
Vause urges growing reserve deputies from under 20 to as many as 70 to speed response times and cut costs by allowing reserves to handle less emergent calls while paid deputies address urgent incidents. He notes reserves have arrest powers and funding covers only equipment. The plan aims to strengthen community policing and lower crime. Hunt counters with record of increasing shifts and drug arrests, highlighting GED and faith outreach at the detention center and programs like Alive at 25 and Books and Badges.
