Deer and livestock collisions cited as major highway hazard
South Carolina records show 1220 animal vehicle crashes last year with three deaths and 70 injuries. CW Dorman of the highway safety office notes about 100 killed and 5000 injured nationwide annually. Deer are a major concern with an estimated 120000 deer killed each year. Dorman urges motorists to slow, watch for animals, and avoid dangerous maneuvers.
