NAACP to present voting plan for Aiken Council

The NAACP chapter will submit an alternative 6 11 voting district plan for Council to review alongside 4 2 1 variants. Staff would modify the chosen plan before DOJ submission. The 5 1 1 option proposes five single member districts with notable African American voting shares in Districts 1 and 2. The 4 2 1 variant currently elevates two at large seats while aiming for a more even distribution of Black voting population. The council also weighs curb and gutter reimbursement policy changes and meets Monday at 7:30 p.m. with a 5:45 p.m. work session at the Aiken Municipal Complex.
