Environment Center to Open on Savannah River Site
A 550000 dollar environment center and a 560000 dollar conference center will be built on 68 acres along U S Highway 278 east of Johnsons Crossroads at the Savannah River Site. The University of Georgia Foundation in a land agreement with the Department of Energy will run the center through the Savannah River Ecology Lab. Officials including Dr Michael Smith and Dr Joe Key announced the plan at a news conference at SREL with tentative guidance to open by next summer. The site on Upper Three Runs Creek will host tours and presentations as part of public environmental education efforts.
