FBI Uniform Crime Report shows a 3 percent rise in total reported crimes in the United States for the first half of 1985. Cities with populations over a million saw a 2 percent drop, while suburban areas increased 4 percent. Regional increases occurred in the South and West.
Rock Hudson died October 2 after a yearlong AIDS battle. The 59 year old actor was cremated and his ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean by Pierce-Hamrock-Reed Mortuary in North Hollywood. An authorized person received the remains.
Alaska Governor Bill Sheffield 57 planned to attend the Seattle Seahawks versus Atlanta Falcons game on Sunday two days after doctors cleared a blocked artery. A spokesman said Sheffield is relieved and eager to return to work after a brief hospital stay at Providence Medical Center and is to be discharged Sunday before traveling back to Alaska.
West Berlin police say three Soviet diplomats suspected of spying on U S Army facilities were expelled and crossed into East Berlin on Saturday. An allied force brief announced their Friday arrest but gave no names or ranks or details of the alleged spying.
