Killian said the county asked FEMA for a chunk of money against about 30 million in invoices as cash on hand remains slim in October and November. Reserves were depleted by storm costs, with $16 million to $18 million end of prior year. The county funded 2013 raises via budget amendments, using salary underruns and pay-range increases.
County Council voted against raising property taxes to fund summer employee raises. Killian warned future budgets may force a revenue increase as costs rise, noting temporary electricity and gas shifts.
