Columbia NAACP elects Lonnie Randolph as state president
Lonnie Randolph was chosen by the South Carolina NAACP to lead the state branch for a two year term. He defeated four rivals at the Freedom Awards Banquet in Columbia, replacing outgoing president James Gallman who plans to stay with the organization. Gallman said he stepped down to allow new leadership while continuing to work with the NAACP. The state group, meeting in Charlotte amid South Carolina boycott pressure over the Confederate flag, aims to push for its removal from Statehouse grounds.
