The Aiken County Board of Education will discuss 1983 SAT results for county seniors and a multi district agreement with Lexington District One for a hearing impaired student. Other agenda items include grants, personnel moves, audits and budget tweaks.
California scene shows Watt reading his resignation letter as President Reagan accepts reluctantly. Officials say a successor could be named in one to two weeks. Watt cites end of usefulness and plans to pursue spiritual freedom and political liberty.
South Aikien High principal James Dawsey reached his seat in Hagood Stadium’s booster club reserved section but was repeatedly asked for booster club ID. He joked that he is the janitor and everything else at South Aikica, then was carded by the booster club.
Gwendolyn B. Johnson named Teacher of the Year for Aiken County School District. She is Langley Bath Clearwater Middle School math chair and has six years with the district. Brenda Loretta Cofer named Supportive Educator of the Year, teaches special education at LBC Middle, and pursues a master’s in education.
Aiken County Arts Council sponsors a week long Festival of the Arts and Humanities featuring art music theater and literature with a downtown parade at 7 30 p m today. Molly Gray chairs the event Sharon Brinkman co chairs events continue through Sunday with exhibits juried shows and lectures by Dr Al Beyer and Dr William Brockington.
