Artist Captures Sir Big Spur Eye In Studio Portrait

Alabama artist Stephen Malkoff finished a detailed drawing of the University of South Carolina live mascot Sir Big Spur showing the eye of the red breasted gamecock. After hours at work he burst into song and described nailing the bird’s cockiness. The pencil piece, now printed for fans, highlights the eye and feather swirl with black white and gray tones and carries a bold promotional blurb.

Sir Big Spur prints support USC scholarships and mascot care

Proceeds from limited edition Sir Big Spur prints by Stephen Malkoff benefit USC student scholarships and Sir Big Spur care. Unframed prints 18 by 22.5 inches sell for 125 dollars. framed 21.5 by 25.5 inches for 275 dollars. Only 3,000 copies, each signed, numbered, and certified, on 100 percent acid free paper, officially licensed by USC. The owners Ron Albertelli and Mary Snelling of Aiken provide the mascot for USC games and have accompanied the mascot to Omaha six times for the college world series. The couple note rising bills as tradition grows, with further details on Page 16A.
