Aiken County weighs a new animal control ordinance to curb overpopulation and reduce the euthanasia rate. The plan would raise fertile animal license fees to 100 dollars and offer low income families a subsidized spay neuter program for fifteen dollars, including rabies shots and licenses.
Gyroplanes and rotorcraft filled the skies at Aiken Municipal Airport for the Georgia-Carolina Rotorcraft Club event Rotors over Carolina. Evan Pope, 11, from North Augusta, flew in a two seat gyroplane with Dan Leslie in Macon offering rides. Evan enjoyed the flight and noted the turning and the expansive view, paying 45 dollars for the experience.
On Oct 18 the council will consider second reading of a 36 million tax increment financing plan to fund infrastructure for Sage Creek and Trolley Run developments by Fine Deering Development Group. The projects aim to add 5000 homes near USC Aiken and Aiken Regional Medical Centers amid taxpayer criticism.
The Aiken City Council will discuss north side revitalization plans at a Monday work session. Officials aim to build or renovate 500 homes, with $60 million in new construction and potential tax gains over 10 years. A $1.75 million funding plan from last fall and a $1 million state request are on the table. The council will also review a new animal control ordinance to raise fees for unsterilized animals to 100 dollars and fund a low income spay neuter program with 30 thousand dollars and 15 surgeries for households under 25 thousand. The session starts at 6 30 p.m. at the Municipal Building 214 Park Ave S W.
