Coward later trained pilots and was among the first South Carolinians to ride the Concorde in 1976 from Washington to London with Jim Gaver. He was 1940s cadet, Clemson graduate, and a former Aiken Chamber of Commerce director survived by his widow Ann Lomax Coward, three sons, two sisters, and one grandchild.
Nathaniel Stetson, head of the Savannah River Operations Office, says technical work is ready for a waste solidification facility to solidify 21 million gallons of radioactive defense waste. The project aims to begin in 1982 and operate by 1989, but House votes blocked DOE defense budget planning, fueling debate over funding and timing.
