Allan Coward Dies At Aiken Training Track Veteran Pilot And Coach
Allan Coward long time manager of the Aiken Training Track died at an Aiken County hospital. Graveside rites are set for 3 p.m. at Millbrook Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Henry Chennault officiating. He served in World War II as a USAF fighter pilot earning seven air medals and two purple hearts. Coward later trained pilots and was among the first South Carolinians to ride the Concorde in 1976 from Washington to London with Jim Gaver. He was 1940s cadet, Clemson graduate, and a former Aiken Chamber of Commerce director survived by his widow Ann Lomax Coward, three sons, two sisters, and one grandchild.
