Washington reports fresh U S combat troops headed to Somalia and the administration ruled out Mohamed Farrah Aidid joining peace talks. President Clinton announced 5,300 troops and a six month withdrawal, with Africa presidents urged to lead negotiations and adapt to any arrangement including Aidid.
The Aiken SPCA fundraiser Wags To Riches will be held October 23 at the H Odell Weeks Activities Center gym on Whiskey Road starting at 10 a.m. Items include antiques, appliances, books, jewelry and more. Donations accepted from October 9 to October 16 at several city locations and delivery help available.
Jarmard Timothy Johnson, 22, of 525 Morgan St., died after being shot multiple times around 1 45 a m in the Talk of the Town bar in downtown Aiken. Police say the investigation continues with witnesses being interviewed and an autopsy planned. Aiken County Coroner Sue Townsend is involved.
