Japanese physicist Takaaki Kajita and Canadian scientist Arthur McDonald win the Nobel Prize in physics for showing neutrinos change type and thus have mass. The Royal Swedish Academy notes the discovery alters understanding of matter and the cosmos. Kajita directs the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research at the University of Tokyo. McDonald is a professor emeritus at Queen’s University in Kingston.
