A 96 year old man in Aiken reported being targeted by three men posing as contractors. Police say he was offered a lottery prize and asked for a $350 prepaid card to claim it. An October 2012 visit by a man named Scott Edwards claimed roof nails needed fixing for a small fee, prompting further concern.
A victim in Aiken paid $37,240 to Scott's Home Maintenance and two other contractors between 2012 and 2014. The man says he never got refunds or completed work. contracts were drawn up but the suspects did not return. Police revealed the trio's involvement and the case has been forwarded to an investigator for further evidence.

Aiken officials meet at 5:30 p.m. today in executive session at the Municipal Building to narrow the city manager search. About 50 applications were received with 75 percent from out of state. Discussions will cover contract negotiations and related matters amid private sessions for legal advice and personnel matters.
The Carolina Square and Round Dance Club celebrates 52 years with a 6 p.m. pot luck dinner at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center 1700 Whiskey Road. The meal will be followed by the annual meeting and officer elections and dancing. All members and former members are welcome.
A Warrenville woman interrupted a moped theft on Legion Road at about 3 a.m. when she checked a suspicious sound. The 82-year-old moped owner said a suspect took the bike from behind his home and also opened an unlocked vehicle, taking a key and a cigarette lighter. A 16-year-old girl was struck by a Ford Mustang near Rutland Drive and York Street while walking to Aiken High School. she was hospitalized with non life threatening injuries and found at fault by investigators. Darian Sharon Curry, 23, of Graniteville, faces charges of leaving the scene after a hit and run on Gregg Street that sent a juvenile on a bicycle to the hospital in Graniteville. The pickup truck involved was found nearby but unoccupied. Highway Patrol continues the investigation.
