Twelve Palestinians killed in Khan Younis raid
Israeli troops with tanks and helicopters killed 12 Palestinians in Khan Younis early Monday and wounded about 110 others in a four hour raid. The dead ranged from 14 to 52 and most were civilians, though the Israeli army said many were armed. Four more were injured at a hospital as troops fired after mortar fire. Hamas threatened revenge and Palestinians denounced the attack as a massacre.

West Coast port talks break off indefinitely
Longshoremen and shipping lines ended talks after the union rejected the latest contract offer, locking out 10,500 workers and halting West Coast port operations. The dispute could cost the US economy up to 2 billion dollars daily, with ships stranded and cargo backups rising to about 200 vessels.
