President Bush defended his handling of the Panama coup saying there was no opportunity to capture Gen. Manuel Noriega and U S force was not warranted under the circumstances. He warned he would not rule out future options including military intervention.
SLED's Bloodhound Tracking Team uses 18 dogs led by trainer Doug Hixon to pursue fugitives. Hixon calls the dogs part of the family and notes Sandy, a 15 year old hound blinded in one eye, once tracked over 4,000 people.
Westinghouse Electric Corp and Bechtel National Inc will prepare a joint proposal to build the heavy water new production reactor at Savannah River Site. DOE approved the partners and seven other firms to design NPR at a cost of 3.4 billion dollars. Each team will receive 10 million dollars for NPR proposals and must submit within ten months.
Aiken Electric Cooperative asks the City Council to relocate the public hearing on a controversial utility franchising ordinance. With seating limited to 150, more than 400 attended last week, prompting a plan to restrict reps to 25 per side and 30 minutes of presentation.
Wyatt Development Co. unveiled a 40 000 square foot two story office building to be built in front of its headquarters on Silver. The $3.2 million project aims for completion by next March. The firm also holds a lease bid with Westinghouse Savannah River for 10 000 to 45 000 square feet nearby and lists 12 additional lease sites plus an 11.4 acre tract for future development.
