National Security Adviser Robert McFarlane called Mikhail Gorbachev's move to halve strategic missile forces a constructive start though it could enhance Moscow’s ability for a first strike. McFarlane warned that accepting a 50 percent cut would leave six warheads per hardened silo.
New York AP report says President Reagan will sign a measure ending U S recognition of the World Court in political cases while leaving mutual submitted commercial or border disputes intact. The move approved by the National Security Council could be announced soon with a push to argue political disputes in the U N General Assembly or Security Council.
Jeffrey MacDonald a former Army Green Beret doctor convicted of killing his wife Colette and two daughters Kimberly and Kristen in 1970 seeks a new trial before a three judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond. He was convicted in 1979 by a federal jury in Raleigh and is serving three consecutive life terms.
Salt Lake City AP report quotes Elder Boyd K. Packer urging Mormons to remain steadfast and unashamed of their gospel. He tells the faithful never to apologize for sacred doctrines and not to feel inadequate if they cannot explain every question.
