All Aiken County Public Schools remain closed due to heavy rain and flooding with a planned Wednesday reopening if weather allows. After school activities and the Freedman Parenting Center are canceled. makeup days include October 26 for Monday classes and another date to be announced.
Aiken County officials reported Langley Dam held up amid weekend storms with Langley Pond near full pool. Siphons operated to manage expected rainfall. downstream flooding did not occur. DHEC decision on repairs remains pending as engineers assess the site.
The event runs noon to 5 p.m. Sunday with eight Aiken homes showcasing kitchen designs. Tickets cost 25 in advance or 30 at the door and support the Aiken County Habitat for Humanity Women Build. Officials report 10 state weather related deaths and widespread damage from weekend floods. The SC Highway Patrol logged 148 collisions and 66 flood reports from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday while Hollow Creek Fire Department aided Salley and Perry. Several roads including Corinth Church Road and Wagoner Road at Tyler Pond were closed. two ponds blew out on Hover and Rocky Grove Roads. Aiken Public Safety logged 187 calls in the City of Aiken with five trees down and two vehicle collisions on Two Notch Road near Palm Drive and Cherry Drive. No flooded homes or injuries reported. no flood calls at residences in Aiken County.
