Savannah River Plant workers topped half a million dollars for United Way agencies in a two week drive ending Monday. The total neared 548000 with 397000 from Du Pont Savannah River Plant, 107000 from Savannah River Laboratory, and 44000 plus from the construction group. Wagener elects Tyler as mayor pro tem at monthly meeting
Wagener Town Council elected Councilmember M D Tyler as mayor pro tem at the latest council session. The body also passed two parking and voting procedure ordinances and adopted a resolution to accept a private property appraisal needed for a waterline crossing to a nearby school. The Christmas parade is set for December 5 at 3 p m and the council approved buying 20 eight foot candles for downtown decorations.

Jackson Town Adds Patrolman To Police Force
Jackson Town Council unanimously approved hiring a third patrolman after funds were found to expand the force. The council also named a replacement for patrolman Danny Marchant who recently resigned. Fire Chief Bobby Garland proposed a city outside fire zone and subscription rates for non city residents. A dumping proposal for leaves and limbs will be reviewed by Aiken County Council after a site inspection by a DEH C representative with Jackson agreeing to conditions.

Fund Drive Unto Vehicle For Webb In Area Four
A fund drive starts to buy an equipped van for Area 4 Superintendent Marion Webb who was injured in a motorcycle crash last spring. Webb is at the Veteran's Hospital in Augusta undergoing therapy to regain arm use.
