Record rainfall shuts down I-95 and prompts South Carolina curfews
A sprawling flood from a slow moving low pressure system paralysed Columbia and surrounding counties with interstate closures including a 75 mile stretch of I-95. Gov Nikki Haley declared an emergency as 30 000 plus power outages and widespread water main breaks left residents without potable water for days. Authorities issued curfews and opened shelters while responders conducted numerous water rescues amid record rainfall and rising flood levels near Gills Creek.
