The Aiken Standard lists detainees booked at the Doris C. Gravat Detention Center on October 3 with charges ranging from unlawful communication and domestic violence to driving under suspension and shoplifting. Several entries note holds for various law enforcement agencies and courts.
Safety officers responded to multiple vehicle break-ins on Windsor Place Grace Avenue Nottingham Drive Pinecrest Avenue and Audubon Drive. A 47 year old man was detained for DUI driving under suspension and uninsured operation after a slow moving vehicle with mismatched tags was observed on Whiskey Road. Aiken County deputies investigate the disappearance of 1400 brass sprinkler heads from a Graniteville construction site. Deputies also handled break ins on Audubon Circle and Ergle Street and a vehicle theft on Wimbledon Road in Salley.

Aiken Public Safety Chief Charles Barranco spoke to the Senior Men’s Club outlining cross training of fire and police personnel as a cost saving adopted in 47 cities. He noted Aiken’s Class 2 fire rating since 1981 and the city’s selection in a MSU study of the concept. Barranco highlighted the Safer Community Initiative modeled on High Point North Carolina and announced an October visit by High Point leaders to mentor Aiken.
