The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce launches six sales training classes at St John’s United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall starting 8:30 a.m. with Sears-Roebuck instructors leading sessions on human relations and public relations.
Detectives guard actress Elizabeth Taylor in London after an anonymous phone threat to kidnap her at the Dorchester Hotel where she stays with husband Richard Burton during his film work. Police say the guard was later withdrawn and the threat is believed a hoax.
Police report Big Tex, the State Fair of Texas figure, may be bare chested after someone stole his 150-pound size 97 shirt from a pickup. Fair employee Jack Bridges parked the truck outside a cafe, then found the shirt box worth 2000 dollars missing upon return.
Elkins West Virginia resident Mrs. Jesse Hancock again raised a prize pumpkin topping 200 pounds. This season the pumpkin weighs 207 pounds, measures six feet in circumference and rises over four feet off the ground.
