Canadian liquid nuclear waste shipments to SRS halted
DoJ lawyers and a coalition of nuclear and environmental groups reached an agreement to pause shipments of liquid highly enriched uranium from Chalk River, Ontario to the Savannah River Site until after a planned Environmental Impact Statement and a court decision expected near early 2017.

Aiken County Habitat Starts 104th House Build
Aiken County Habitat for Humanity began construction on its 104th home on Mississippi Avenue in Aiken. Bank of America funds the project with major sponsorship and volunteer labor, including USC Aiken students and a Friday Crew, part of its Global Build initiative. The two bedroom house, owned by Trika Wallace, is expected to finish early in 2017.

Backstretch Tours At Aiken Training Track Offered
Horse lovers can join backstretch tours hosted by the Training Track in partnership with the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame. Tours run 9:00 to 11:15 a.m. on Oct 15, Dec 10 and next year Feb 18, May 20, with rain dates. $25 per person, sign up by the Thursday before each Saturday tour. Participants meet at Rye Patch parking lot and ride a minibus to the track.
