Americans win Nobel Prize in physics for COBE findings
Two Americans, George Smoot and John Mather, share the 1.4 million dollar prize for COBE measurements that confirmed the big bang’s oldest light. The space telescope detected a blackbody spectrum and tiny fluctuations tracing the seeds of galaxies from about 380 thousand years after the creation of the universe.
