Area Christians will form a human life chain Sunday from 2 30 to 3 30 p m along Pine Log Road west of Whiskey Road to Silver Bluff Road. Many area churches join in the event. Senator Lindsey Graham praised the Savannah River Site plan to restart both reprocessing canyons describing it as a major shift. He argued stabilizing DOE funding around FY1998 levels at about 1.3 billion would stabilize the workforce and political stability, enabling broader cleanups and potential plutonium disposition at SRS. He noted consolidating plutonium at SRS and closing Rocky Flats could save millions and speed cleanup, with fuller canyon operation accelerating DWPF capacity.
Savannah River Site workers presented a 1.01 million dollar check to United Way of Aiken County at a luncheon, surpassing the 725000 goal despite 2200 fewer employees. The site, with about 12000 workers, exceeded expectations while the overall campaign sits at 59 percent of its target.
