South Carolina Baptists chart growth model for denominations
The South Carolina Baptist Convention reports rising church attendance with 185 new congregations since 1900 while 140 fewer lost members. Leaders say tailoring Bible studies and outreach to local needs, not centralized programs, helps growth and may guide other denominations toward a similar approach.

Spoleto brings back Nigel Redden to steer festival
Charleston Spoleto Festival hires Nigel Redden as general manager to restore finances and lead next spring's events. Redden, who previously ran the festival from 1986 to 1991 amid deficits, returns as the current operating fund remains in the red by 2.6 million while a 1.4 million endowment offsets some debts. He replaces Milton Rhodes who resigned after a 900 thousand dollar deficit this year.
