Sassafras festival packs weekend with crafts and acts

The Eighth Annual Sassafras Festival in Burnettown runs Thursday to Saturday along SC 421 with Elvis impersonators Jason Sikes and Brian Randall, Steve Lee's stage show, bluegrass, gospel, clogging, puppetry, blues and 100-plus booths. Events include a car and truck show, tractor display, a dance contest and martial arts and Christian Wrestling Association shows with primary organizers Charles Williams Jimmy Wood Wanda Shedd and Michelle Pardue. Ridge Spring Monetta wins $50,000 for SAT score gains

Vehicle damage and drug possession reported in local blotter

A Monday vehicle damage incident on Cabinet Drive caused about 800 in scratches to the left and right front fenders and hood. On Tuesday a Hutland Drive case led to a breath and open container violation for a woman and passenger. A separate Beat Street stop resulted in a drug possession citation for a Aiken woman tied to a bag with five small bags and a white powder, plus a silver spoon with burn marks.

Dupont Planetarium Schedules The Voyager Encounters

The Dupont Planetarium at USC Aiken Ruth Patrick Science Center debuts The Voyager Encounters starting Friday October 4 with 7 and 8 pm showings. The program tours Jupiter Saturn Uranus and Neptune with Voyager data, ends with Sky Tonight, weather permitting observatory open after shows.
