Riley Challenges Aiken County to Equip Children for Success

Gov. Richard E. Riley urged 600 residents in Aiken County to commit to better education during a Move to Quality forum at Midland Valley High School. Tax Auction Starts At Courthouse

About 120 people gathered at the Aiken County Courthouse for a large public auction of delinquent 1982 property taxes. Johnny Ray Field acted as auctioneer as roughly 300 parcels were offered with sale terms cash and same day payment, though the owner has 18 months to reclaim via repayment with interest.

Grand Jury Subpoenas Nine Lexington Delegation Members

Massive horse complex rising near Shultz Hill in North Augusta

Atlantic Coast Cutting Horse Association announces a 700000 facility on 25 acres between U S 1 and U S 25. Three barns with 100 stalls each will house horses for the Atlantic Coast Cutting Futurity held each January at the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center. Foundations poured and steel erected. Ajusto Stall Co. of Weatherford Texas building. Completion targeted before the 1984 Futurity January 22 28. About 440 horses nominated to compete.

Aiken County Considers Resolution on NPR at SRP

The Aiken County Council may urge the Governor and state officials to back a proposed $4 to $6 billion NPR plant at the Savannah River Plant. Councilman Fay Hatcher leads the push at the 7 p.m. meeting at 736 Richland Ave. The DOE plans store the plant to boost national material production capacity.
