Wells Rep Linked to $50,000 Loan in Brooks Fraud Case
Prosecutors disclosed a promissory note for $50,000 from state Rep. Don Wells to Jonathan Brooks as part of a securities fraud and forgery case. Brooks pleaded guilty to three counts of securities fraud and two counts of forgery, receiving a 15 year sentence plus probation and restitution. About 59 investors share in roughly $760,000 to be distributed, with each getting about 12 percent. Wells expressed regret for trusting Brooks in an interview with the Aiken Standard.
