S C voter ID count excludes thousands in SC

In South Carolina more than 74 000 inactive or nonvoting registrants were excluded from data used to estimate voters without state IDs under the new photo ID voting law. The State Election Commission and DMV cautioned that inactive and nonrenewal data affect counts, while the Justice Department seeks scrutiny before approving the law.

USC project puts historic South Carolina newspapers online

The South Carolina Digital Newspaper Program at the University of South Carolina Libraries offers freely accessible 1860 to 1922 issues via the Library of Congress Chroncling America site. Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, it includes The Columbia Phoenix and Charleston Daily News with more titles and 200,000 pages planned by 2013.

VA to cover extra costs amid home loan confusion

The VA will waive differences in funding fees for loans closing during the confusion over a Sept 8 notice that lowered fees but Congress delayed the new rates until November. Lenders who acted on the lower fees will be reimbursed, easing closing costs for veterans and banks.
