The Nov 2 video gambling referendum boosts voter registrations by 92 265 in three months as registration deadline closes. State data show gains surpassing last year's weeks leading to the gubernatorial election. York County adds 3231 new voters and Greenville County 4110 as statewide vote on legal or banned industry looms.
A group of small-business owners formed the South Carolina Alliance for Small Business to back video gambling in the November 2 referendum. Frank Knapp of Columbia's Knapp Agency said the alliance will hold news conferences to emphasize how convenience stores, bowling alleys, restaurants and other businesses rely on video gambling revenue.
South Carolina leader Jim Hodges called for direct gubernatorial control over the Emergency Preparedness Division and the Transportation Department to fix evacuation delays seen during last month’s Floyd response.
