Ruling Allows SCE&G To Stay In Real Estate

The State attorney general's office issues an opinion allowing South Carolina Electric and Gas Co. to keep buying land for profit through its Energy Subsidiary as long as land gains or losses do not impact electricity or natural gas rates. PSC will scrutinize figures to ensure rate base neutrality while SCE&G seeks higher electricity and gas rates. Tom Turnipseed accuses SCE&G of legal violations and argues land dealings fund stockholders. Austin notes land profits could affect dividends.
